3i, a leading private equity and venture capital firm, wanted to use their office relocation as an opportunity to change the silo-type company culture. They selected SHCA to develop a new workplace strategy, evaluate shortlisted buildings and subsequently design the new office at 16 Palace Street, London.
The building's larger floor plates enabled greater teamwork and communication between investment and professional services groups.
All professional and support staff are in open plan space to foster enhanced communication. The need to work privately or quietly is met through a high proportion of shared enclosed spaces. The vibrant staff restaurant can also host 'town hall' meetings and events.
Designers created a sophisticated and contemporary workplace that accommodates guests, employees and visiting staff. The 62,000 sq ft (5,760 sq m) office has a dedicated floor of conference spaces, dining rooms, video conferencing and presentation facilities, and two floors of general office space.
This fast-paced project took one year from building selection to occupation and was delivered on program and on budget.
