SHCA was a part of ABN Amro's strategy team who developed a new Global Workplace Strategy - that communicates workplace best practice guidelines to the business and sets space utilisation targets internationally. The results have been substantial and are expected to exceed the cost savings target within a three year pay-back period.
ABN Amro occupies commercial office space in over 60 countries worldwide. Their business growth had involved a number of mergers and acquisitions and, coupled with geographic and cultural differences, there had been no historic consistency of approach to office space occupancy or workplace design.
Firstly, we undertook a study to measure international target buildings and produce reliable and consistent space metrics to established the extent of geographic space variations. We identified space economies in existing buildings, together with building appraisals and test fits for new leased buildings. We produced a tailored suite of tools for: Global space measurement guidelines; A building performance evaluation matrix; Time utilisation surveys and Pre and post occupancy staff satisfaction surveys.
This was followed by our design of a 20,000 sq ft (1,860 sq m) flexible workplace pilot project which has proved highly successful, both financially and with the staff who work there.
