EC Harris, an international real estate consultancy, initially appointed SHCA to define its space needs and develop a flexible workplace strategy to assist in selecting a new headquarters. The client subsequently chose a 6,225 sq m (67,000 sq ft) space and appointed us to design the interior fit-out.
Our goal was to create a fresh, stimulating environment that fosters interdisciplinary interaction and team spirit. Designers developed a strong, simple identity linking areas and contrasting with the existing Victorian-era industrial architecture of the front of the site.
The open plan office space accommodates 600 permanent and mobile staff and is configured to support teamwork and desk sharing. Open plan meeting and breakout spaces, small 'quiet' areas and meeting rooms facilitate informal gatherings and private work. A staff caf and bar, client meeting suite and touchdown areas energize the public space.
EC Harris' Chairman noted the increase in staff morale and tangible improvements in staff communications since occupying the space. Statistics from the post occupancy review confirm that the workplace is contributing to the firm's competitive advantage.
