The design approach for this site is influenced by the local context - the principal elevations face East and West and have different design solutions to each aspect.
On the East side we adopted a 'formal' response to the surrounding streets by stacking the apartments to form bays that are redolent of town houses, thereby creating a vertical emphasis.
On the West side the building faces an organic market and we achieved a more 'informal' effect by grouping windows in a horizontal arrangement and including 100 sliding louvers, the position of which can change according to residents needs. Balconies were also located in a random pattern which is in keeping with the spirit of the market place.
The building includes a number of retail units at street level that are ideal for specialist food shops adjacent to the organic market. This light and creative building will attract residents to this delightful and enjoyable urban environment.
