The new academy will be a mixed school for ages 11-18 and a sixth form of 1,350 pupils. The academy will provide a transformation in education and opportunities for students and their communities in Potter's Green and Woodway Park. The specialism of the new academy will be Business & Enterprise.
Sponsored by Mr Robert Edmiston, the Chairman of the IM Group, who has already sponsored the Grace Academy in Chemsley Wood, the new 11,949 sq m (128,600 sq ft) Academy will replace the current Woodway Park School and occupy the existing site.
There are four main wings to the building each being two storeys in height, with a central over-arching three storey cantilevered structure. There will be a clear front face in curtain walling to the entrance facade, which will emphasise the open nature of the academy to the community. The rear elevation will face the green sports field which will provide a 'garden wall' acoustic barrier to the M6 motorway.
The central space forms the heart of the academy. The low entrance under the lecture theatre, opens to reveals a three storey open space surrounded by walkways with a partially transparent roof over. The feature central staircase allows the whole school to be addressed from the landing.
