Swanke Hayden Connell Architects have been shortlisted as one of six top architects for the design of a new wing at the Sheffield Children's Hospital. The £20m development provides a landmark new entrance building, houses an outpatients department, three new 24 bed inpatient wards , and addresses the site landscaping and parking issues. SHCA's innovative solution also provides:
- New site focal point addressing the city with appropriate respect for the area's heritage.
- Clinically excellent nursing footprint.
- Vibrant, architecturally interesting, environmentally sensitive building, housing a lively, light, bright, well laid out interior.
- Clearly laid out patient journeys indicated by our innovative wayfinding system, providing assurance and limiting stress.
SHCA were short-listed following a public tender invitation, and all teams' designs will be displayed for the public to view on the Trust website at www.sheffieldchildrens.nhs.uk and in the city in the following months. The winning design will be chosen by a panel in January.

Every September, there is a unique opportunity to get out and under the skin of London's amazing architecture, with over 700 buildings of all kinds opening their doors to everyone. SHCA projects, The City of London Academy and The Richard Cloudesley School in Islington, were open and free for public viewing.

The event was a tremendous success, both venues were viewed by lots of visitors many of whom were local residents. We received many positive comments from the visitors who were fascinated by the quality of spaces we have created and the amount of light pouring into the building. They loved the mixture of the old and new, the clever storage solutions, the outside space on the second floor and were very impressed with the main activity hall.

The Building Better Healthcare (BBH) Awards judging team has chosen its shortlist for 2011. In total, 56 entries have made it through to the final cut, the winners will be announced on 10th November. Our King's Mill project has been shortlisted in the Award for Best Acute Care Design category. The criteria for this award is to achieve "An outstanding hospital new-build or refurbishment project that helps to transform clinical services and places the patient experience and staff support at the heart of the project".

The client and design team were presented with the award for winner of the Best Corporate Workplace at the BCO London Regional Awards on 24th May. The project will now go through to the National Awards which will be held in October.

Cushman & Wakefield today announced that financial advisory and asset management firm Lazard has reached an agreement with Tishman Speyer to renew its office lease at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Lazard has retained Swanke Hayden Connell Architects to redesign the workspace.
