Combining high tech offices with a covered market, alongside the elevated Paris ring road (Peripherique), whilst creating a well integrated architectural icon, presented the type of design challenges that SHCA relish. Acoustics, sustainable facade design and efficient office configuration are successfully combined to create a strong urban statement.
The site marks the gateway from the Paris city limits into the up and coming suburb of Pantin. The south facing facade, with its protective double skin running alongside the urban motorway, creates a sleek and scintillating screen in tune with the speed and dimensions of the motorised environment. On the Northern side, the building's morphology evolves in a continuous movement to create a respectful counterpart to the existing urban streetscape.
The ground floor houses a covered market that opens on to the surrounding "parvis" by way of impressive hydraulic flaps of metal grill. Above, the offices maximise the length and depth of the site to create a flexible, well distributed and naturally lit working environment.
